A crawling tube for the space station

In the middle of the Dutch National Park Dwingelderveld, the RCN Holiday Park is located. Families with children love the park, and therefore they have a great focus on activities for children both outside and inside. The park has, for example, created a large indoor play area that depicts a space station.

In the space station, our tube elements are laid horizontally and are used to make a crawling tube. The crawling tube has become part of the interior and creates an extra playful element to the play area. Our windows have been added to several of the tubes, so that natural light enters the crawling tube, and at the same time the children have an opportunity to look out. The crawling tube is designed to follow the wall in the room and is raised to ceiling height with a play panel below. This placement creates a good connection between the two activities and the children can easily interact with each other if they are involved in a common game.

Crawling tubes are ideal for creating hiding places in the play areas – and children love a good hiding spot. Here they can engage in imaginative role-play, tell each other secrets or withdraw from the play if needed, making the crawling tube a popular addition to any play area.
